enrollment: 5
- This
may be a patient care or non-patient care elective.
- Prerequisites:
Basic radiology elective; permission from instructor
required.
Goals:
To provide the opportunity to participate in ongoing research
within the Department of Radiology. For example, the student
might correlate gross anatomy of various joints with imaging
modalities of the same specimen utilizing routine radiography,
CT, MR, etc.
Format:
Each research experience will be coordinated with an individual
staff member from the Radiology Department. The student will
participate in ongoing research projects or a study will
be designed and tailored to meet the student's interests
and future goals. Based on areas of interest, the student
should directly contact the appropriate Radiology staff member.
The Radiology Coordinator can provide specific information.
Evaluation
methods: Students will be individually evaluated by
their research preceptor according to goals set by the

- Prerequisites:
General Systemic Pathology 801
Goals:
To expose the student to the various aspects of Radiology
as well as training the student to interpret basic radiological
studies in preparation for future career endeavors.
Format:
The four-week elective at UMC is divided into four one-week
assignments in which the student is assigned to a certain
subspecialty of radiology (neuroradiology, pediatric radiology,
etc.). The assignments are designed in a manner to be most
suitable for individual student needs. There are daily conferences/lectures
designed for the medical student provided by the Radiology
faculty to cover the basic areas of radiology that may not
be necessarily covered in daily didactic interactions. The
student is expected to complete the assigned radiology text
during the rotation.
Evaluation
Methods: The student grade is based on subjective evaluation
by the staff and on the results of an examination. At the
end of the elective, each participating faculty member
submits to the course coordinator his/her impression of
the student based on his/her personal contact during daily
activities and student conferences. In addition, a written
and practical examination is given at the end of the elective,
and the student also completes a presentation.
