The Ultrasound Section has three
faculty members and seven sonographers.10,000+ sonograms are performed
per year.Ultrasound examinations performed at the University
Medical
Center include
examinations of the abdomen, pelvis, small parts, first trimester, lower
and upper extremity veins, liver, renal and pancreas transplants and
evaluation of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts (TIPS).
Ultrasound is used for guidance for biopsies, thoracentesis and
paracentesis procedures.
Residents are actively involved
in performance of procedures and interpretation of examinations.
